Mock Trial Team

Boys’ Latin fields two teams to compete annually in the Maryland Bar Association’s Mock Trial Competition. Each team competes separately against other Baltimore areas schools including Friends School, Gilman and Baltimore City College. Competitions are held each spring over several weeks at the Wabash Avenue Courthouse in Baltimore. Matches are judged and decided by local attorneys, law professors and judges.

The Mock Trial experience gives our students a truly engaging, competitive and hands-on experience with the United States legal system. Each team must play the parts of both lawyers and witnesses while facing off against another school doing the same. The boys spend at least as much time in personal and group preparation as they do in the court room. Success in mock trial requires a good working knowledge of the legal system and courtroom procedure, critical thinking and public speaking skills, and the ability to think quickly on one’s feet.
